My Story

It's funny how we unintentionally get involved in things. About 30 years ago, while at a business meeting, I noticed a unique looking pen that a colleague was using. I asked about the pen, and he told me that he had made it on a lathe in his shop. He spontaneously invited me to his shop to make one.

That afternoon he showed me around his shop and introduced me to his lathe. Having years of woodworking experience, he felt comfortable giving me a short training class and I made my first pen. That moment sparked a passion that would stay with me for decades.

When I retired 10 years ago, my work group asked me what I wanted as a retirement gift. I told them that I wanted a Midi Lathe so I could turn pens. They presented me with a new lathe and all of the tools necessary to get started. I have been turning pens and other small objects weekly for the past 10 years and love it.
